Colossal

Colossal (2017) is Nacho Vigalondo's monster-movie oddity, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Anne Hathaway plays Gloria, who loses her job, gets dumped, and slinks back to her sleepy hometown to dry out.

Meanwhile, a giant creature starts flattening Seoul. Gloria spots the catch: the thing mirrors her exact movements, showing up only when she stumbles across a local playground at a certain hour each morning. An old friend, Oscar (Jason Sudeikis), hands her a job at his bar and what looks like kindness — but the more Gloria untangles her freak connection to the disasters half a world away, the clearer it becomes which monster she should actually fear.

Vigalondo takes the disaster-flick template and twists it into a story about addiction, control, and a friendship that curdles into something nasty. The kaiju gag becomes a surprisingly mean little drama, carried by two leads playing well against type. Stream Colossal (2017) online on iFILM.
