This spin-off of The Walking Dead throws together two people who share nothing but bad blood. Years back, Negan beat Maggie's husband to death in front of her. Now her son Hershel has been dragged off by a slippery operator known as the Croat, and the only man who can navigate the ruins of New York is Negan himself. Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan carry the show: their truce cracks in nearly every scene. Manhattan plays like its own character, all flooded tunnels, collapsed bridges and walkers that have learned to climb.
