Season 1

Huo Linglong, the eldest young lady of Linglong Manor, disguises herself as a man and arrives at an inn, where she witnesses a clash between the Tang Sect and Shengyun Manor. During the chaos, Linglong unexpectedly rescues a mute boy who had been traveling with Shengyun Manor's Third Chief. Later, she encounters a mysterious man in black named Zhan Rifei. Using the alias Huo Xiaodi, she hides her true identity, but both of them sense that the other is not who they claim to be.

Huo Linglong discovers Zhan Rifei has been hit by the Shangqing Sect's Great Compassionate Palm. Since the Shangqing Sect only punishes evil people, Huo Linglong misunderstands Zhan Rifei and leaves in anger.

Huo Linglong clears up the misunderstanding with Zhan Zhao, and the two set off for the capital together. However, they are intercepted by Grandma Han Shui. Unable to defeat her, Chang Hong Bi agrees to return to Hanshui Palace with Grandma Han Shui in exchange for sparing their lives.

Zhan Zhao risks his own safety to save the hostages. Mo Dao mocks him for not being able to kill him due to the law restriction. But he is killed by Yan Ziqing's dart. Zhan Zhao collapses from exhaustion and is taken to the farm.

Jin Zhenping recognizes Zhan Zhao but refuses to help him, keeping his reasons closely guarded. He also suspects that the man in white is the same boy connected to the Jin family from 15 years ago, someone who may have returned seeking revenge.

Ding Zhaohui confesses the truth to Zhan Zhao. His father did not die of illness, but was killed by the Zhanlu Sword. To protect the Ding family, Zhaohui has kept this tragedy a secret for a year.

Zhan Zhao, Bai Yutang, and Xu Qing capture Zhi Hua and take the antidote from him. Zhi Hua says that the poison he used was from the Tang Sect, but he didn't tell them who the mastermind was.

In the courtroom, Zhan Zhao reveals that the letter came from Western Xia and contains solid proof that Emperor Taizong murdered his father and usurped the throne. Minister Cheng insists that Zhan Zhao is working with the rebels and subjects him to torture.

The group investigates Ruzhen Embroidery Workshop. They deduce that the workshop lures young girls into it with the promise of a high sale price. After that, they'll sell them to brothels using an underground tunnel.

Zhan Zhao disguises himself as Shen Zhongyuan to enter Zhongxiao Courtyard. Meanwhile, Bai Yutang enters through the underground tunnel in the backyard of the embroidery workshop. Then they meet up in the underground palace.

Clerk Fang admits that he and Magistrate Li framed Liu Hongui. Furious that the Yamen staff cannot tell right from wrong, Zhan Zhao realizes that the corruption in Xiangzhou has rotted all the way to the core.

Zhan Zhao, who feels guilty, barges into the magistrate's office of Yicheng alone. He manages to rescue the magistrate of Yicheng before He Bo's men can take him out. He becomes the last witness of the Liu Hongyi case.

Bai Yutang invites Zhan Zhao to be Yaksha together with him so that they can punish evil-doers. Zhan Zhao tells him that countering violence with violence isn't an act of justice. Bai Yu Tang falls out with him.

Ding Zhaohui mentions the medicinal smell coming from the courtyard and decides to remain at the Jing Residence to gather more clues. Zhan Zhao resolves to have Huo Linglong handle the Nightmare Sky antidote while simultaneously rescuing Yu Lian so she can testify against Jing Yiming.

Bai Yutang and Zhan Zhao go along with the situation and put on an act of the "cat and rat" turning against each other. Unable to find Bai Yutang, Zhi Hua is startled when he suddenly emerges from the ruins.

Jing Yiming confesses that he killed his father, Master Ding, and eliminated the obstacle to uniting the martial world Zhao Hui uses Soaring Crane to pierce Jing Yiming's vital point. Then he is injured by the Zhanlu Sword and taken away.

The group salvages the remnants of the burned documents and pages from the ash. Zhan Zhao finds the key pieces of the documents from the secret room. After piecing them together, Prince Xiangyang's network and his four confidants are slowly revealed.

Zhan Zhao shares a drink with Bai Yutang and reveals the truth about his past. Meanwhile, Ding Yuehua breaks into the prison at night and challenges Jing Yiming to a duel.

Tang Tianhao tells Zhan Zhao and the others that he can't neutralize the Nightmare Sky poison. He only gives them a medicine to suppress it. Bai Yutang suspects that the creator of the poison is someone from the Jin family. The threads involving Si Ming, the Tang Sect, the Jin family, and his brother's wrongful conviction are gradually converging.

Bai Yutang registers for the Suwen Tournament under the name Jin Xuewen and sets up a diversion by asking Jin Zhenping to meet in the apricot grove. Meanwhile, Zhao Zhi Er and Ming Zhu Er stir up public opinion, pressuring Jin Zhenping to hand over the antidote for Nightmare Sky in front of everyone.

Shao Jizu sets up a trap in the bamboo forest to point out that the victim of the old case was Huo Linglong's aunt. Huo Linglong then rushes to verify the claim from Madam Jiao and learns that it's the truth.

After getting drunk and spiralling into self-loathing, Zhan Zhao confronts him with harsh words, forcing him to face his inner demon and take responsibility for uncovering the truth of what happened fifteen years ago.

Zhan Zhao deduces that the plague is actually caused by Seven-Day Dream. He suspects that Jin Xuewen was silenced after he found out the truth.

Bai Yutang demands that Fourth Madam tell the truth in court and testify against Tang Ji. He wants her to provide evidence to clear his brother's name. Fourth Madam takes her own life as Jin Zhenping blackmailed her with the jade pendant.

At the Suwen Tournament, Huo Linglong publicly appeals for justice, declaring that Jin Xuewen was wrongfully accused for fifteen years and that the victim was her aunt. The crowd responds with fervor, demanding that the competition be postponed and the old case be retried first.

When Jin Zhenping sees that Siming is exposed, he brings Xu An to the dense forest by the cliff to force Tang Tianhao to work together to kill Zhan Zhao and the others. Bai Yutang comes to the rescue.

Minister of the Court of Judicial Review, Cheng Hao, uses the reputation of the Xiangzhou bureaucracy as a shield and advises Prince Hui not to hand the account books over to His Majesty. Zhan Zhao is enraged

Zhan Zhao enters the capital city alone to have an audience with the emperor. He tells His Majesty that if he sacrifices the justice of the people of Xiangzhou just to investigate the case of Prince Xiangyang, he'll be no different from the corrupted officials on the account book. Ren Zong finally agrees to his request. Zhan Zhao restored justice with his courage.

The magistrate, Hu Xiaochen, turns out to be Zhan Zhao's friend. Zhan Zhao talks about his past with Liu Hongyi and Hu Xiaochen ten years ago.

Zhong Shou is captured and admits to the business of arranging ghost marriages. He works with the physician to drug and kill young women and also exposes the buyer, Wang Qing. Both people are killed to be silenced that night.

Hu Xiaochen claims that the murder was committed by the Xiuluo Sect. He also suspects that there's a mole on his side, Zhu Mingyuan.
