The Deuce (Seasons 1–3)

The Deuce (2017) is an HBO crime drama you can watch online on iFILM. David Simon, the creator of The Wire, turns his lens on early-1970s Times Square — a few city blocks where pimps, street workers and low-level mobsters brushed shoulders with the entrepreneurs who turned pornography into a full-blown industry.

At the center stand twin brothers Vinnie and Frankie Martino, both played by James Franco, who also serves as executive producer. Maggie Gyllenhaal earned a Golden Globe for her role as Candy, a street worker with a sharp eye for filmmaking. Three seasons stretch from 1971 to the mid-1980s, tracing the sex trade's peak, the cocaine epidemic and the early shadow of HIV — until Times Square as it existed simply ceased to be.
