Synopsis
Swing Shift (1984) is Jonathan Demme's wartime drama you can watch online on iFILM. When Pearl Harbor pulls Kay Walsh's husband Jack into the army, Kay — played by Goldie Hawn — takes a job at a local aircraft plant to get by. She has never worked a factory floor in her life. She figures it out fast.
At the plant she meets her neighbor Hazel, played by Christine Lahti, and their friendship becomes the film's true center. Kurt Russell plays the foreman everyone calls Lucky, who starts paying Kay more attention than is strictly professional. Ed Harris and a very young Holly Hunter round out the ensemble of workers and hangers-on navigating a world where the rules keep changing while the men are away.
Demme keeps the camera on the women doing the actual work — and on what it costs them, personally, to hold things together. It's a home-front story that doesn't moralize; it just watches. Stream Swing Shift (1984) online on iFILM.
