Synopsis
Who's That Knocking at My Door (1968) is Martin Scorsese's feature debut, available to watch online on iFILM. Shot in black and white across New York's Little Italy, the film introduced Harvey Keitel to the screen in a role that set the template for everything Scorsese would explore next.
J.R. is a young Italian-American who lives by the rules of the neighbourhood — Catholic guilt, street loyalty, a rigid sense of honour. He falls for a young woman and wants to make things right. Then she tells him about her past. The two worlds inside him — the street code and the feeling he can't name — collide without a clean resolution. Zina Bethune plays the unnamed Girl. That choice is deliberate.
Scorsese began shooting the film as a student at NYU and reworked it over several years before release. It anticipated Mean Streets and seeded the themes he would return to for decades: sin, faith, neighbourhood, manhood. Stream Who's That Knocking at My Door (1968) online on iFILM.
