Synopsis

Bringing Out the Dead (1999) is Martin Scorsese's fever-dream drama you can watch online on iFILM. Nicolas Cage plays Frank Pierce, a burned-out paramedic racing an ambulance through Hell's Kitchen one sleepless night after another.

Frank hasn't truly rested in days. They used to call him "Father Frank" for the lives he pulled back from the edge. Now the dead ride shotgun in his head, especially a homeless girl named Rose, and he keeps showing up late on purpose, half-hoping to get fired. Over three brutal shifts he cycles through partners: easygoing Larry (John Goodman), Bible-thumping Marcus (Ving Rhames) and the volatile Tom (Tom Sizemore). Then there's Mary (Patricia Arquette), keeping vigil while her father clings to life in the ER.

Paul Schrader adapted Joe Connelly's novel, drawn from his own years as a New York medic, marking the fourth and final Schrader-Scorsese collaboration after Taxi Driver. Cinematographer Robert Richardson drenches the city in smeared neon, and the soundtrack rattles from The Clash to Van Morrison. Stream Bringing Out the Dead (1999) online on iFILM.
