White Boy Rick

White Boy Rick (2018) is Yann Demange's crime drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. In mid-1980s Detroit, with the auto plants rotting and crack on every block, fifteen-year-old Rick Wershe is dealing on the street when the FBI takes notice.

Agents pull the teenager in as an informant, promising protection in exchange for names. Rick gives up dealers, then drifts deeper into the trade himself until he becomes the kind of player he was sent to watch. His father, Richard Sr. (Matthew McConaughey), peddles guns out of his trunk and dreams of opening a video store; his sister is lost to addiction. When police find a large stash of cocaine on the kid, the same government that recruited him locks him away for life.

The film draws on the real story of Richard Wershe Jr., the youngest informant the local bureau ever ran. Newcomer Richie Merritt plays Rick raw and unpolished, and against McConaughey that contrast cuts hard. It is a cold, angry look at a system devouring its own.
