Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo and Donatello grew up underground, trained in ninjutsu by their rat father Splinter, who is terrified of humans. High-schooler April O'Neil, a rookie reporter, spots the brothers and cuts a deal: help her crack a story on a shadowy crime syndicate, and the city might finally embrace them. The plan collapses when an army of mutants pours into the streets, led by a hulking housefly called Superfly.

Director Jeff Rowe gave the film a hand-drawn look, as if every frame were scribbled in a school notebook with markers. Real teenagers voice the brothers, while the supporting roster could headline its own movie: Jackie Chan as Splinter, Ice Cube as Superfly, plus John Cena, Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, Maya Rudolph and Post Malone.
