Zardoz

Zardoz (1974) is a British science-fiction film you can watch online on iFILM. Director John Boorman — coming off Deliverance — made one of the most eccentric and philosophically charged genre pictures of the decade, starring Sean Connery and Charlotte Rampling.

The year is 2293. A small elite called the Eternals live inside a domed sanctuary called the Vortex, shielded from the outside world, rendered immortal, and gradually going mad with boredom. Beyond the boundary, savage Brutals scrape out a living and worship a giant stone flying head called Zardoz. Zed, one of the armed Exterminators dispatched to control the population, hides inside the head and is carried into the Vortex — a dangerous specimen the Eternals don't quite know what to do with.

Boorman financed the film himself when a Lord of the Rings adaptation fell through, shooting on location in Ireland on a tight budget. It flopped on release and baffled critics.
