Cube

Cube (1998) is Vincenzo Natali's science-fiction thriller, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Six strangers wake up inside a vast structure of identical cubic rooms with no memory of how they got there.

Every room has six hatches, and behind each one sits another room exactly like it. The only differences are the color and whether the cell is rigged: a thin trip-wire, a spray of acid, a motion sensor. Someone dies in the first minute. Trapped together are a jittery doctor, a hardened cop, a withdrawn math whiz, and a student who spots a pattern hidden in the room numbers. To find a way out, they have to crunch numbers and tolerate each other before panic tears the group apart.

Natali built essentially one set and relit a single cube to stand in for dozens of rooms. Made for under a million dollars, the film became a cult favorite and spawned sequels and imitators around the world. Who built this prison, and why, is a question the director never answers.
