Synopsis
Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench (2010) — watch online on iFILM Damien Chazelle's black-and-white debut feature, shot on the streets of Boston. A jazz musician and an introverted young woman spend three months together before he drifts toward someone livelier. The split is quiet and almost inevitable.
Guy, played by Jason Palmer, is a trumpet player too restless to stay. Desiree Garcia's Madeline barely knows what she wants — which makes losing it easier. Chazelle shoots the city like a documentary, then breaks the rhythm with musical sequences that feel improvised rather than staged. The result sits somewhere between a French New Wave love story and a John Cassavetes sketch.
Seen now, the film works as a rough draft for La La Land — same city, same jazz heartbreak, same feeling that talent and love rarely run on the same schedule. Good for anyone drawn to lo-fi indie drama where the soundtrack does half the storytelling. Stream Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench (2010) online on iFILM.
