Synopsis

The Many Saints of Newark (2021) is the crime-drama prequel to The Sopranos, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Alessandro Nivola plays Dickie Moltisanti, the mobster the show talked about in hushed tones but never put on screen.

Newark, the late 1960s. The city is at a boiling point: in the summer of 1967 the streets erupt after police rough up a Black cab driver, and Dickie works his rackets in the middle of the unrest. He runs a slice of the DiMeo family business while a sharp former associate, Harold McBrayer (Leslie Odom Jr.), decides he is done answering to white bosses. And watching it all is a teenage nephew who treats Dickie like a god. The kid's name is Tony Soprano.

Young Tony is played by Michael Gandolfini, son of James Gandolfini, who originated the role. Series creator David Chase co-wrote the script, with Vera Farmiga, Ray Liotta in dual roles and Jon Bernthal filling out the cast. This is the story of who shaped the boy into the boss.
