Synopsis

Frances Ha (2013) is Noah Baumbach's black-and-white comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM. Greta Gerwig plays Frances, a twenty-seven-year-old in New York who dances on the fringes of a company and refuses, stubbornly, to grow up.

She has no real home. Her dance gig keeps her on the bench, and her best friend Sophie (Mickey Sumner) moves out and drifts into a grown-up life Frances can't follow. So Frances bounces between other people's apartments, burns through money she doesn't have, even flies to Paris for two aimless days — all with the cheerful momentum of someone who hasn't noticed the dream is fraying. Adam Driver turns up in a supporting role, and Gerwig co-wrote the script with Baumbach.

Shot on grainy black-and-white film and clearly in love with the French New Wave, scored to David Bowie, it's a warm, slightly aching portrait of the age when everyone expects you to figure things out. Stream Frances Ha (2013) online on iFILM.
