Se7en (1995) is David Fincher's bleak detective thriller, free to watch online on iFILM. In a rain-soaked, unnamed city, a killer is murdering strangers one by one, each death staged around one of the seven deadly sins.

A week before retirement, weary detective Somerset (Morgan Freeman) catches one last case. His new partner is Mills (Brad Pitt), a hotheaded transfer who just moved to town with his wife Tracy (Gwyneth Paltrow). The first body is gluttony. Greed, sloth and pride follow. This killer doesn't hide. He quotes Dante and Chaucer and leaves clues like sermons, daring the cops to keep up. The closer Somerset gets, the less sure he is that anyone can actually stop a man like this.

It was only Fincher's second feature, and the one that made critics take him seriously. Andrew Kevin Walker's script, Darius Khondji's grimy cinematography, and an ending people still argue about turned this New Line Cinema film into a genre benchmark. Go in cold if you can.
