Synopsis
The Host (2013) is Andrew Niccol's sci-fi action film, available to watch online on iFILM. A near-future Earth has fallen to the Souls: bodiless invaders who slip into humans and erase the mind that lived there.
Their newest host is Melanie Stryder. The plan misfires. The alien planted in her, called Wanderer, cannot wipe Melanie out, and the two consciousnesses end up sharing one body and fighting over every choice. Sent to hunt down the rebels Melanie loves, Wanderer chooses to shield them instead. Saoirse Ronan carries the dual role, opposite Diane Kruger as a cold-eyed Seeker and William Hurt as the rebels' weathered leader.
Niccol adapted the script from the novel by Stephenie Meyer, author of Twilight, trading teen romance for sun-bleached desert dystopia. The story keeps arguing with itself about where the person ends and the occupier begins. Stream The Host (2013) online on iFILM.
