Synopsis

The Ox-Bow Incident (1943) — watch online one of Hollywood's sharpest westerns, directed by William A. Wellman and starring Henry Fonda and Dana Andrews. The year is 1885. A rancher is dead, cattle gone, and the sheriff is nowhere in sight.

A posse rides out and grabs three strangers on the road. The evidence is thin. The crowd is not interested in thin evidence. Gil Carter stands in the back and watches what a mob does when fear and anger run out ahead of the law. 20th Century Fox released the film mid-war, and reviewers immediately read it as something beyond a western — a study of how ordinary people sanction violence they already know is wrong. Seventy-six terse minutes, Anthony Quinn and Harry Morgan among the cast, and an ending that hits without warning. Stream The Ox-Bow Incident in good quality on iFILM.
