Hostiles

Hostiles (2017) is Scott Cooper's hard-edged Western, and you can watch it online on iFILM. The year is 1892, and the wars with the Plains tribes are burning out. Christian Bale plays Captain Joseph Blocker, a soldier who has spent his career killing and hating.

His final order feels like a cruel joke: deliver a dying Cheyenne chief, Yellow Hawk (Wes Studi), and his family safely home to Montana. The man who fought these people for decades must now keep them alive. Along the trail the party picks up Rosalie Quaid (Rosamund Pike), a settler who watched Comanche raiders slaughter her children. Ahead lie outlaws and rival war parties, where trust has to be earned the hard way.

Cooper shoots the frontier as grief and labor rather than myth, with Jesse Plemons, Timothée Chalamet, Ben Foster and Rory Cochrane filling out the column and Masanobu Takayanagi's camera catching the cold prairie light.
