Synopsis
To Each His Own Cinema (2007) is a landmark anthology film you can watch online on iFILM. Commissioned to mark sixty years of the Cannes Film Festival, it brought together 33 directors from across the world, each given three to four minutes to say what cinema means to them.
The lineup reads like a map of world filmmaking: David Lynch, Spike Lee, Wong Kar-wai, Aki Kaurismäki, Wim Wenders, Roman Polanski, Lars von Trier, Jane Campion, the Dardenne brothers, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Takeshi Kitano, the Coen Brothers, Zhang Yimou. Some entries are playful, some melancholy, some barely narrative at all. The one constant is that moment when the lights go down.
No two segments look alike — that contrast is the point. As a document of where cinema stood in the early 21st century, few projects are as candid or as varied. Stream To Each His Own Cinema online on iFILM.
