The Mountain Men

The Mountain Men (1980) is an American western you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Richard Lang. Set in the Rocky Mountains of Montana during the waning years of the fur-trade era, it follows two weather-beaten trappers who have spent so long in the wilderness that civilization feels foreign — and not particularly missed.

Charlton Heston plays Bill Tyler; Brian Keith is his partner Henry Frapp. They've made a life out of trading, trapping and staying out of everyone else's way. That arrangement unravels when a woman named Running Moon flees her violent husband Heavy Eagle and ends up in their camp. Heavy Eagle doesn't forgive, and he doesn't stop — what follows is a pursuit across hundreds of miles of unforgiving terrain.

Richard Lang keeps the focus tight: this is less about frontier mythology and more about two men who outlasted the world they knew. Heston and Keith make their characters feel genuinely worn-in rather than romanticized, which gives the film a rougher, more grounded edge than most westerns of its era.
