21 Grams

21 Grams (2003) is Alejandro González Iñárritu's crime drama, available to watch online on iFILM. Three strangers, one car crash on a dark road, and three lives shattered in the same instant.

Paul is a mathematician with a failing heart, waiting for a donor. Christina is a suburban mother of two who loses everything in seconds. Jack is an ex-convict who found religion and now cannot live with what he has done. The accident binds them together, and the film refuses to tell it in order — it cuts between past, present and aftermath until the full shape of the tragedy comes clear. Sean Penn, Naomi Watts and Benicio del Toro play people stripped down to grief, guilt and the raw will to keep going.

The title comes from an old belief that the body grows exactly 21 grams lighter at the moment of death. Iñárritu shot the second film in his "Death Trilogy" as something cold and almost clinical, with no swelling score telling you how to feel. Watts and del Toro both earned Oscar nominations.
