A strange link grows between the boy and the alien — they feel what the other feels, even apart. Outside, government men are closing in on the house.

Spielberg's film became the top-grossing movie of its decade and won four Academy Awards, including one for John Williams, whose flying-bicycle theme is recognizable from its first notes.
