About

Synopsis

Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet (2014) is an animated film you can watch online on iFILM, adapted from the Lebanese-American poet's landmark 1923 collection. Salma Hayek produced and lent her voice to the project; Liam Neeson and John Krasinski also appear. The 85-minute film was made across Canada, Lebanon, Qatar, and the United States.

The linking story follows the exiled poet Mustafa as he finally prepares to sail home. A young girl, Almitra, walks beside him, and each of her questions opens into a verse — on love, work, children, freedom, grief, death. Around these passages, ten animators from different countries built ten distinct visual chapters: some painterly and soft, others angular and precise. Roger Allers, director of The Lion King, holds the frame together.

This is adaptation as argument: the film treats Gibran's poetry as material to be visualized, not illustrated. It's slow and contemplative by design — closer to a moving art installation than a conventional story. Best for viewers who already have some feeling for the source or who want animation that takes ideas seriously. Stream Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet (2014) in full online on iFILM.
