Synopsis
The Rescuers (1977) is a Disney animated feature you can watch online on iFILM. When a bottle washes ashore carrying a plea from an orphan named Penny, the mouse-run Rescue Aid Society answers the call.
Two unlikely volunteers take the case: the nervous janitor Bernard and the elegant Hungarian delegate Miss Bianca, voiced by Bob Newhart and Eva Gabor. Their trail leads to Devil's Bayou, where the greedy pawnshop owner Madame Medusa keeps Penny captive and forces her down a flooded cave to dig for an enormous diamond. Two pet crocodiles guard the swamp, and the tide rises fast.
Directed by Disney veterans Wolfgang Reitherman, John Lounsbery and Art Stevens, this 78-minute adventure carries a gentle melancholy under its charm, plus a Sammy Fain song and the warm hand-drawn look of the studio's 1970s output.
