Orion and the Dark

Orion and the Dark (2024) is a DreamWorks animated feature you can watch online on iFILM. Orion is a grade-schooler afraid of nearly everything — wasps, ocean depths, strangers, and above all the dark.

Then the Dark itself shows up in his bedroom. Not a monster but a big, grinning giant (voiced by Paul Walter Hauser) who whisks the boy off on a journey across the planet at night. Orion (Jacob Tremblay) meets the other Night Entities — Sleep, Quiet, Insomnia — and slowly starts to wonder whether the dark was ever worth fearing at all.

Charlie Kaufman wrote the screenplay from Emma Yarlett's picture book, and it shows: the story keeps wandering off the usual kids'-movie path into questions about fear, time, and the stories we tell ourselves.
