Helen is a Manchester detective who almost loses her unborn child in a car chase. Sent to recover — and to investigate — she ends up in Poulsford, a small town she had reasons to avoid. Two teenage girls have gone missing: Abigail Toms and Poppy Johnston. The official theory points one direction. Helen's reading of the evidence points another. The further she pushes, the more the case reaches into her own past.
