The Eternal Daughter

The Eternal Daughter (2022) is a British ghost story and drama you can watch online on iFILM, written and directed by Joanna Hogg. Tilda Swinton plays both roles: an aging mother and her adult daughter, a filmmaker who has brought her back to the family home — now a quietly decaying hotel in the Welsh fog. The daughter's plan was simple: a few days together, a gift of time. What she didn't account for is that houses keep score. Old patterns reassert themselves, conversations veer toward things left unsaid for decades, and the line between a Gothic atmosphere and a film about grief blurs deliberately. Hogg developed the project as a companion piece to her Souvenir films, and it carries the same autobiographical weight — restrained, precise, not interested in providing comfort.
