Synopsis
EDtv (1999) is a comedy from Ron Howard you can watch online on iFILM. A video-store clerk agrees to let cameras film every second of his life. Including the seconds he'll wish they hadn't.
Ed Pekurny is an unremarkable clerk in San Francisco. A struggling cable channel goes hunting for an "ordinary guy" to broadcast live, around the clock, and Ed, with little to lose, signs on. At first it's a blast. Then the ratings explode, the whole country falls for the regular Joe, and Ed discovers his private life no longer has any walls or doors. Matthew McConaughey plays Ed, Woody Harrelson is his scheming brother, and the cast fills out with Martin Landau, Ellen DeGeneres and Dennis Hopper.
Howard made this back in 1999, a year before reality TV truly took over, and he came close to calling exactly where it was headed. Its jokes about fame eating a person alive play less like satire now and more like a weather report. Stream EDtv (1999) online on iFILM.
