Synopsis
The Mosquito Coast (1986) — watch online on iFILM. Director Peter Weir cast Harrison Ford as Allie Fox, an eccentric inventor who packs up his family and abandons the United States for the remote jungles of Central America, convinced he can build a better civilization from scratch.
Fox drags his wife (Helen Mirren) and children to an unmapped stretch of the Caribbean coast, where he hammers together an ice-making machine in the middle of the rainforest. His teenage son Charlie (River Phoenix) idolizes him — and slowly starts to see the line between visionary and obsessive collapse. The deeper the family goes into the jungle, the more Fox's dream curdles into something dangerous. Paul Theroux wrote the novel the screenplay is based on.
