About

Synopsis

Green Card (1990) is Peter Weir's romantic comedy, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Two strangers marry purely for paperwork, then have to fake a happy union for the immigration office.

Brontë wants an apartment with its own greenhouse, but the building only rents to married couples. Georges, a Frenchman whose visa is running out, needs an American wife to stay in the country. They strike a deal, sign the forms and walk away, each getting exactly what they came for. Then the immigration service demands proof, and the so-called newlyweds are forced to move in together, learn each other's habits and rehearse a shared history. The gruff, chain-smoking Georges and the tidy, buttoned-up Brontë drive each other crazy. Gérard Depardieu and Andie MacDowell clearly relish the clash.

Depardieu won a Golden Globe for the role, his first major English-language part. A warm story about a sham slowly turning real. Stream Green Card (1990) online on iFILM.
