Lightyear

Lightyear (2022) is Pixar's sci-fi animated feature, and you can watch it online on iFILM. It tells the story of the real Space Ranger who inspired the famous toy from Toy Story.

A colony ship makes a forced landing on a hostile planet, and Captain Buzz Lightyear blames himself for stranding everyone. Determined to get them home, he test-flies an experimental hyperspeed fuel again and again. Each mission lasts minutes for him but burns years on the ground. While Buzz chases the speed of light, a whole new generation grows up without him. He gets help from a squad of green but stubborn recruits and Sox, a robot cat who quietly steals every scene. Chris Evans voices Buzz, Peter Sohn plays Sox, with Keke Palmer, Taika Waititi and Uzo Aduba rounding out the cast.

Director Angus MacLane didn't make a sequel. He built the in-universe blockbuster that made young Andy want the action figure in the first place, which is why the ships and launch pad lean hard into retro-future design.
