An American family inherits a centuries-old castle in rural Italy. John Reilly brings his wife and their blind daughter along to sort out the paperwork before selling the place. Something scrapes behind the walls at night. The daughter insists a visitor comes to her room after dark. Down in the dungeon, locked away for decades, is a creature that has long since lost any connection to what it once was.
Gordon wrote the script himself, without the Lovecraft source material he often used, and the result is a claustrophobic character study as much as a creature feature — a family already fraying at the edges pushed past the breaking point.
