Don Diego de la Vega (Anthony Hopkins) spent twenty years rotting in a cell. The tyrant Don Rafael Montero took his freedom, his wife and his infant daughter. Once free, Diego molds a hotheaded thief named Alejandro (Antonio Banderas) into the next Zorro, drilling him in the blade, the bearing and the bluff. Sparks fly between the new hero and Montero's fiery ward Elena (Catherine Zeta-Jones), who has no idea who raised her.
