End of Watch

End of Watch (2012) is David Ayer's crime thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Two LAPD officers, Brian Taylor and Mike Zavala, work the streets of South Central, where a routine traffic stop can turn into gunfire in seconds.

Taylor (Jake Gyllenhaal) has picked up a camera and films every shift, so much of the story plays out through their own footage: body cams, the dash recorder, the shaky frame of a foot chase. Beneath the locker-room jokes and talk about their wives is a real bond between partners. Then a routine stop puts a cartel's cash and guns in their hands, and the two cops land on a kill list.

Ayer, who grew up in these neighborhoods, drops the gloss of cop movies for the sweat, grime and gallows humor of the actual job. Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena rode along with real patrols for months, and that chemistry carries the whole film. Anna Kendrick, Natalie Martinez and David Harbour round out the cast.
