Synopsis

Mutiny on the Bounty (1962) is a sweeping historical adventure you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Lewis Milestone and starring Marlon Brando, Trevor Howard, and Richard Harris. Running over three hours and shot partly on location in Tahiti, it stands as one of the most ambitious — and expensive — productions MGM ever greenlit.

The year is 1789. HMS Bounty sails for the Pacific to collect breadfruit seedlings, and Captain Bligh (Howard) runs the ship like a floating torture chamber — starvation rations, floggings, relentless humiliation. Six months anchored off a tropical island give the crew a taste of something different. On the voyage home, officer Fletcher Christian (Brando) decides enough is enough. Bligh and his loyalists are cast off in a longboat and left to the open ocean.

Based on the documented events aboard the actual Bounty, this was Hollywood's third adaptation of the story and the most visually spectacular. Brando's Christian is the film's real draw: not a simple rebel, but a conflicted man choosing conscience over rank. The picture earned seven Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture.
