Synopsis
Flash Gordon (1980) is a sci-fi adventure you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Mike Hodges. Earth is doomed: alien energy waves have knocked the Moon off its orbit and the planet has weeks to live.
Football star Flash Gordon, reporter Dale Arden and the eccentric Dr. Hans Zarkov launch themselves into hyperspace and crash-land on the planet Mongo. There they meet its ruler, Ming the Merciless, played with icy relish by Max von Sydow. To save Earth, the three outsiders must unite Mongo's feuding princes against him: Vultan's hawk-men, the exiled forest prince Barin played by a young Timothy Dalton, and Ming's scheming daughter Princess Aura (Ornella Muti), who has plans of her own.
Lurid colors, gloriously fake sets and a thundering soundtrack by Queen turned the film into cult space-opera. Some laugh at how camp it is, others rewatch it for pure joy. Stream Flash Gordon (1980) online on iFILM.
