Dune
A world beyond your experience, beyond your imagination.
Synopsis
Dune (1984) is David Lynch's sci-fi epic you can watch online on iFILM. Adapted from Frank Herbert's landmark novel, it drops you into the year 10,191 on Arrakis, a desert planet where the spice Melange is mined from the sand. Nothing in the galaxy moves without it.
Whoever holds Arrakis holds the universe. The Emperor pits two houses against each other: the honorable Atreides and the brutal Harkonnens. When Duke Leto is betrayed and killed, his young son Paul (Kyle MacLachlan) escapes into the dunes, home to the Fremen who have waited generations for a prophesied leader. Sandworms a mile long guard the spice. And as the war for it deepens, Paul begins to see what he is meant to become.
The cast includes Patrick Stewart, Max von Sydow, musician Sting and Jurgen Prochnow, with a score by the rock band Toto. Lynch's version is strange, baroque and unlike any other take on the material, squeezing a thousand-page book into roughly two hours. Stream Dune (1984) online on iFILM.
