The Matrix

The red pill rips the world open. What everyone calls reality is a simulation fed to sleeping humans while machines farm their bodies for power. Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) is convinced Neo is the One who can break the system. Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) fights at his side. Hunting them is Agent Smith, played by Hugo Weaving with a flat, mocking menace that steals every scene.

This Warner Bros. picture rewrote the rules of the genre. Bullet time, cascading green code and rooftop leaps got copied and parodied for decades.
