Synopsis
The House That Jack Built (2018) is a Lars von Trier crime drama you can watch online on iFILM. Jack is an engineer who dreamed of becoming an architect and a cold-blooded killer who has been counting his victims for twelve years.
The film is structured as a confession. Jack, played by Matt Dillon, walks an unseen listener through five episodes from his life as a murderer, framing each killing as a step in his personal art. Uma Thurman and Riley Keough appear among those who cross his path, while Bruno Ganz answers from the dark. Von Trier skips cheap jump scares. Instead he dissects how a man justifies cruelty to himself and turns violence into a warped aesthetic.
This Danish-German-French production runs 152 minutes and became one of the director's most argued-over works after Cannes, where some walked out and others stood to applaud. It is harsh, provocative viewing laced with references to Dante and art history, and clearly not for everyone. Stream The House That Jack Built (2018) online on iFILM.
