Young Snow White lives under the roof of her stepmother, a vain queen. When the magic mirror finally names the girl the fairest of all, the jealous ruler orders her killed. Snow White escapes into the forest and shelters in the tiny cottage of seven dwarfs: Grumpy, Happy, Dopey, and their brothers. The Queen will not let it go, and she prepares a cunning trap built around a single poisoned apple.

Walt Disney poured a then-enormous budget into the project, and the gamble paid off. The film reshaped animation itself and earned a special honorary Oscar, one full-size statuette beside seven little ones. Songs like "Heigh-Ho" are still sung today.
