At five years old, Saroo falls asleep on a train in India and wakes up alone in a city he doesn't recognise, with no way to say where home is. He survives, gets adopted by an Australian family, grows up. Then, twenty-five years later, something pulls him back. He starts scrolling satellite maps, square by kilometre, searching for the one rooftop he remembers from childhood. Young Saroo is played by Sunny Pawar; Dev Patel takes over for the adult years.
