Mad Max

The setting is a near-future Australia where law enforcement and biker gangs fight for control of the highways. Max is a cop who still believes the job matters. Hugh Keays-Byrne leads the gang hunting down officers one by one. When that violence reaches Max's wife Jessie (Joanne Samuel) and their young son, the uniform comes off.

What follows is lean, fast, and relentlessly mean — 91 minutes with almost no wasted shots. Miller built the film on practical stunts and real road footage, giving it a rawness that later productions with ten times the budget never quite matched.
