Sam "Ace" Rothstein is the sharpest oddsmaker the mob ever found. Chicago bosses plant him at the Tangiers Casino in Las Vegas to keep the money flowing back east. Scorsese co-wrote the script with journalist Nicholas Pileggi, who based it on real events and real figures from the Vegas mob era — the same partnership behind Goodfellas.
