Poor Things

Poor Things (2023) is a wildly original sci-fi comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos, running 141 minutes, the film stars Emma Stone in a role that won her a second Academy Award.

Bella Baxter woke up not knowing who she was — and that ignorance turns into freedom. The eccentric surgeon Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe) brought her back from death by transplanting an infant's brain into her adult body. She grows up fast: one week she can barely walk, the next she's arguing philosophy. Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick, self-serving lawyer, persuades her to run away to Europe. She goes — not for him, but because the world is enormous and she intends to see it. Lisbon, Alexandria, Paris each give her something, and she gives nothing back she doesn't want to.

Based on Alasdair Gray's 1992 novel, the film was shot on deliberately warped lenses by cinematographer Robbie Ryan, giving every frame a waking-dream quality that suits Bella perfectly.
