Synopsis
Blade Runner (1982) is Ridley Scott's landmark sci-fi noir — watch it online on iFILM. Harrison Ford plays Rick Deckard, a burnt-out detective pulled back into service to hunt down a rogue group of replicants: genetically engineered humans built to work the off-world colonies.
Los Angeles, 2019. The Tyrell Corporation's Nexus-6 replicants are nearly indistinguishable from people — same skin, same memories, shorter clock. Four of them have slipped back to Earth looking for their maker and a way to stay alive longer. Deckard is ordered to retire each one, police slang that means something permanent. Along the way he meets Rachel (Sean Young), Tyrell's assistant, whose childhood recollections are perfectly intact. They were also installed by the factory. Rutger Hauer's Roy Batty — desperate, brilliant, dying — turns the film's final scene into something the script barely hinted at; Hauer improvised the "tears in rain" speech on the day of shooting.
Shot by cinematographer Jordan Cronenweth and adapted from Philip K. Dick's novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, the picture bombed on release in 1982 then quietly became the blueprint for cyberpunk. Stream Blade Runner (1982) on iFILM.
