Super

Super (2010) is James Gunn's pitch-black action comedy, free to watch online and built around a deranged pairing of Rainn Wilson and Elliot Page. Short-order cook Frank loses his wife to a smooth local drug dealer played by Kevin Bacon.

So Frank snaps. He sews a red suit, names himself the Crimson Bolt, and starts cracking down on crime with no powers whatsoever, just a pipe wrench and righteous fury. A hyperactive comic-shop clerk, played by Elliot Page, appoints herself his sidekick, and her bloodlust turns out scarier than any villain. Liv Tyler plays the wife at the center of his one-man crusade.

Gunn made this a year before Marvel handed him Guardians of the Galaxy, and the same voice is here, only nastier and stripped of any budget: gore, absurdity and a streak of real sadness running underneath.
