About

Synopsis

Romancing the Stone (1984) is Robert Zemeckis's adventure comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Joan Wilder writes hit romance novels but lives like a hermit. Then a package from Colombia lands in her mailbox.

Her sister has been kidnapped, and that parcel holds a treasure map the abductors want back. Joan drops everything and flies to South America, boards the wrong bus, and ends up stranded deep in the jungle. A scruffy soldier of fortune named Jack Colton, played by Michael Douglas, pulls her out of trouble. From there it's mudslides, gunfire, a stolen emerald, and a sleazy treasure hunter played by Danny DeVito tracking them every step. Kathleen Turner turns timid Joan into someone who fights back.

Zemeckis made this three years before Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and his knack for kinetic set pieces is already on full display. The film was a surprise box-office hit, spawned the sequel The Jewel of the Nile, and still stands among the best of its kind. Stream Romancing the Stone (1984) online on iFILM.
