The Post

The Post (2017) is a historical drama directed by Steven Spielberg — watch online on iFILM. Katherine Graham (Meryl Streep), the first woman to run a major American newspaper, and editor Ben Bradlee (Tom Hanks) find themselves holding a classified Pentagon study that documented decades of government deception about the Vietnam War.

The papers, spanning thousands of pages, showed that four consecutive administrations had misled Congress and the public about a war they privately believed could not be won. The New York Times had already been blocked by court order. Now it was the Washington Post's turn. Graham had only recently taken over the paper after her husband's death — and now a single overnight decision could either expose the truth or shut the publication down permanently.

Spielberg shot the film in under a year, and was open about the urgency he felt: the tension between press freedom and government pressure felt immediate.
