Synopsis

Papillon (1973) is a crime drama you can watch online on iFILM. Safe-cracker Henri Charrière — nickname Papillon, after the butterfly tattooed on his chest — is convicted of a murder he did not commit and shipped to the French penal colony in Guiana. Director Franklin J. Schaffner adapted Charrière's own memoir, a firsthand account of thirteen years spent refusing to accept a sentence he considered stolen from him.

Steve McQueen plays Papillon with the kind of controlled fury that makes every near-escape feel personal. Dustin Hoffman is Louis Dega, a quiet forger who becomes Papillon's unlikely partner: one provides muscle, the other money. Their arrangement grows into something neither would call friendship. The final destination — Devil's Island, ringed by ocean on all sides — was considered unbreakable. Papillon disagrees.

At 151 minutes, the film earns its length. It's a slow accumulation of loss, solitary punishment, and stubborn human will. Stream Papillon (1973) online on iFILM.
