About

Synopsis

McVicar (1980) is a British crime drama you can watch online on iFILM, with Roger Daltrey — The Who's frontman — playing real-life armed robber John McVicar, once labeled Britain's most dangerous man. Director Tom Clegg based the film on McVicar's own autobiography, and that source keeps things raw and close to the bone.

Sentenced to 23 years, McVicar refused to sit still. Transferred to Durham's high-security wing, he plotted his way out. Adam Faith co-stars as his cellmate Walter, and the chemistry between them carries the film's quieter stretches. This is not a slick heist movie — it's a grinding portrait of a man who treated prison the way others treat an inconvenience, something to be solved and moved past.

What makes McVicar stick is its ending: the man actually earned a university degree behind bars and walked free early. That real-life turn cuts against every expectation the film sets up. Stream McVicar (1980) online on iFILM.
